Why Take the Food `n Fun Challenge?
The Challenge stocks the CAC Food Pantry to provide for local families in need year-round and eliminate child huger in the summer months. In CAC’s service are of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody an estimated 33,815 citizens live with yearly incomes below $45,000 for a family of four. As many as 80 percent of CAC clients say they miss one meal every day to make ends meet. One in five local children suffer from food insecurity. During the summer months, families face additional financial stress as food costs increase when children are home during summer school vacation and not receiving free lunches at school. While requests for food assistance typically increase during the summer, donations to the food pantry typically decline. CAC provides food to about 500 families a month, many come to the pantry weekly.
Your team can help “Stomp out Hunger” in our community! Participation creates awareness of hunger issues in our local community and collects food and funds for CAC’s food pantry program which enhances the quality of life for everyone CAC serves.
Every year teams from businesses, congregations and schools throughout the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody communities collect about 50,000 pounds of food to provide for families in need during the summer months. Awards are given every May to organizations for the most food collected in the Schools, Business, Congregation and Civic categories.
