Volunteer Opportunities at CAC
Canopy Thrift™
- Sales Clerks: Operate the register and assist shoppers. Training provided.
- Donation Sorters & Pricers: Sort, price, and stock clothing and home goods.
Empowerment Center
- Adult Education Teachers: Teach ESOL/English, computer skills, or financial education. Session commitment required.
- Career Services Volunteers: Support jobseekers with resume review, interviews, and networking.
Financial Assistance
- Interviewers: Meet with clients to help apply for emergency rent or utility assistance. Weekly commitment required.
Mini-Market
- Check-In & Check-Out: Verify client identification and record outgoing food. Training provided.
- Food Pantry Support: Stock shelves, process donations, and receive deliveries. Some lifting required.
Seasonal Opportunities
- VITA (Feb–Apr): Help clients file tax returns (free certification required).
- CAC Benefit Gala (Mar–Oct): Assist with planning, auction support, and event setup.
- Meals for Kids (May–Aug): Help distribute food to families.
- Tools for School (July): Pack and distribute backpacks and supplies.
- Hope for the Holidays (Oct–Dec): Support gift intake and distribution.
One-on-One Conversation
Support adult learners as they build confidence speaking English in a welcoming, one-on-one setting. Sessions are held on the second Saturday of each month.
Volunteer requirements
- Age 16 or older
- Native or near-native fluency in English
One-on-One Conversation takes place during Conversation Over Coffee at the Empowerment Center, located at 1130 Hightower Trail, Sandy Springs, GA.
Roswell Road Food Pantry
Our main food pantry, located on Roswell Road a mile south of the Chattahoochee River, serves hundreds of neighbors each week. Shifts are available to set up the market for our neighbors, to process and sort food in the receiving area, and to assist clients while they shop. South Sandy Springs Food Pantry
Our newest branch in South Sandy Springs is located just south of I-285 off of Roswell Road, behind the Center Ice Arena. Since its opening in 2022, the number of clients has been steadily increasing, so there is a greater need for volunteers. Shifts are available to set up the market for our neighbors, to process and sort food in the receiving area, and to assist clients while they shop.
