About the Tools for School program

CAC’s Tools for School program provides free backpacks and school supplies to local children. The program is open to eligible school-age children living in Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and the part of Doraville served by Dunwoody schools.

Each year, the Tools for School program provides about 1,000 students with new backpacks filled with important school supplies based on their grade level and the needs of local elementary schools. These supplies help reduce financial stress for families and ensure students are ready for the new school year.

An application is required for the program. Backpacks and school supplies are limited.

Important Information

To participate in the Tools for School program, families must be CAC clients, and must apply for the program.

  • If using a cell phone to apply, please turn it to landscape view.
  • Please submit only ONE application per family unless you have 7 or more children in need of school supplies
  • Once you have submitted your application, CAC will contact you to request documents, if needed.
  • Please ensure CAC has your current cell phone number, as this will be our main way of contacting you.
  • Families accepted into the program will receive a text message July 13–18 with their assigned backpack pick-up date and time.

Required Documents

Identification for the Whole Family

For adults: Government-issued picture ID, such as a driver’s license or passport (used for the purpose of verifying identity).

For children: Birth certificates, passports, school enrollment forms, and/or custody papers (used for the purpose of verifying identity).

Proof of Current Address

Copy of current apartment lease, mortgage, utility bill, bank statetement, or any other official letter confirming your residency at your address.

Proof of School Enrollment for the 2025-26 or 2026-27 School Year

School ID card; recent grade report; letter/email to confirm receipt of free/reduced lunch; or a screen shot of Infinite Campus page of either the grade report or registration.

If your child is starting school for the first time in 2025-26 academic year, then a registration letter from the school is required.

How to send documents to CAC:

    1. Take photo of document and send as .jpg or .pdf and attach it to an email. Please identify each document in the file name. (e.g. ID, lease, income).
    2. Please put your full name in the subject line and add ‘School Supplies’ so we know what the email is for. (e.g. James Williams School Supplies).

BECOME A CAC CLIENT

How to participate in the Tools for School program if you’re not a current CAC client

Please proceed to apply for the Tools for School program. We will contact you to set up an appointment to become a CAC client. Once you have had your appointment and have become a CAC client, your Tools for School application may be accepted. Do not email documents for the Tools for School program until you are a CAC client.
